FAQs For Wrinkle-Reducing Injections

//FAQs For Wrinkle-Reducing Injections

At White Dental Rooms we are not only expert dentists, but we also specialise in many anti-ageing treatments. We aim to provide you with the best processes available so that you can look and feel great, at any age. Our treatments are non-invasive unlike cosmetic surgery procedures such as face-lifts.

No treatment portfolio would be complete without wrinkle-reducing injections, and we offer the well-known Botox® injections, as well as Dysport®. Overall these products are very similar as they are both a type of Botulinum Type A used to relax the muscles that cause frown lines. Think of them like comparing apples to apples. There’s a difference between a Cox apple and a Gala apple variety, but they are both still apples. Dysport® is made up of smaller modules so the unit measurement is different than Botox®. We will discuss your requirements during your consultation and decide which option is better for you.

For those who have not undergone this treatment before, let us look at some of the questions we are often asked:

Anti-wrinkle injections have been used for over 20 years with no known adverse effects. They are made from a medication called Botulinum Toxin which has been tested and approved for both medical and cosmetic purposes. Most people will suffer no side-effects, however, like any treatment, you are warned about possible risks. With anti-wrinkle injections, very few people notice some mild bruising or facial weakness depending on the area treated, but this is usually only temporary. We do not recommend this procedure if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as risks to the baby are unknown. To reduce the risk of complications it is extremely important that all anti-wrinkle treatments are administered by highly qualified practitioners, such as ourselves, in a safe and sanitary environment.

We move our muscles when a signal from the brain instructs them to contract. After many years of facial movements, whether it is frowning, squinting, or smiling, combined with lifestyle factors such as sunbathing and smoking, lines and wrinkles start to form. With age, our skin is less able to bounce back, and these wrinkles can become more deep set and permanent. The anti-wrinkle injection interrupts the signal going to the muscle so that they do not contract as much, which stops the skin from creasing.

No! We only target the small areas where your unwanted lines and wrinkles are present. The ‘frozen’ look that many fear is a result of too much of the product being used in one area. During your consultation, we will talk you through how your treatment can be used for subtle effects, and which areas you would like to be treated. It certainly does not need to be obvious that you have had this treatment and you can have perfectly normal facial expressions.

These injections are largely used for the face to combat wrinkles such as crow’s feet at the corner of the eyes, the ‘11 lines’ between the eyebrows, and lines at the mouth. However, this product can also be used to prevent migraines, as it relaxes the muscles to relieve the pain and tension in the forehead. The injections can also be administered in the armpits to prevent excessive sweating.

You will not need any anaesthetic as the needle used is very fine and there is little discomfort. We will clean the skin and then inject tiny amounts of the product into the area(s) required. It is advisable to keep the area clean and makeup free for at least 24 hours after treatment. You will start to notice the effects of the treatment a few days later, and the results will last for up to six months.
